We didn't really do that much today in class. We all reviewed our blogs and talked about them. Mr. Schick called us up one by one to go over them. While we went over the blogs, some people had to finish the maps from yesterday. I had already finished my maps, so we all got to work on other homework if we finished the maps. We also had three different shadows in our class today. One of the shadows was my friend Miranda.

In class today we didn't do very much. We talked about the seven continents and a lot of people actually didn't know them. We got three different papers with three different maps on them. We had to label stuff on the maps. Some of the things we had to label was the contents, the oceans, equator, and the prime meridian. We had to color code all of them. We also learned that there is 24 different time zones in the world.

In class we talked about longitude and latitude. Latitude measures around the equator. It also measures from East to West. Longitude measures from the North Pole to the South Pole. It goes from North to South. We also learned that the time is different everywhere, even though everybody already knew that. Somebody had an idea a long time ago that the time should be the same all over the world. Another thing we talked about some more is that if we took the paper off of a globe, the countries and oceans would not look the same. The pieces would not fit together well.

Thursday in class we mostly learned about maps. The main map of the world that all classrooms use is called the mercator map. The mercator is just a basic map of the world and it uses different colors for different countries and states. We talked about how that map might actually not be accurate. It makes some countries look bigger than they should be. We looked at a map of what some people believe the world really looks like and the continents look more stretched out. Also, we watched an episode of a show where they talked about the Mercator map being inaccurate.

Today for most of the class we learned about Socrates. Socrates was accused of corruption of Athens' youth and impiety. Impiety is not believing in the gods of the state. If he was guilty of either one of these crimes, he would be sentenced to death. When it was his turn to speak at the trial he admitted to the crimes and told everyone that he thinks he should be rewarded for it. He was found guilty and and was sentenced to death. He died a painful death by drinking poison hemlock. hemlock is a flower that is very toxic. The sailors said they would allow him to escape but he refused to do it. we also learned that the word "idiot" used to have a different meaning. It meant someone who was super self-centered  and concerned with private affairs instead of public.

Today in class we learned some new vocabulary. An agora is a gathering place in Greece used for meetings. 508 BC is very significant because that was the birth of democracy. Sacrates was a major philosopher. He was a hero who fought in the Peloponnesian war. We also learned that Jesus actually looked different then what people think. His hair and beard were probably a lot shorter considering where he was from and the time he lived. We talked about how we all have different opinions on if heaven and God are real. We also learned how humans and dogs think differently.

Today in class we learned about Cuba and more about "A Message to Garcia." In the beginning of class, we were all still trying to figure out how to upload blogs. We learned that Mount Denali, the tallest mountain in America, started as Mount Denali. The name was then changed to Mount McKinley, named after President McKinley. President McKinley was assassinated in 1901. The name later changed back to Mount Denali. "A Message to Garcia" started as an inspirational essay and it was later turned into a pamphlet and a book. It was then made into a movie two times. We also learned that perihelion is when a planet is closest to the sun so it is its brightest

Kamryn's First Day of High School

My first day of high school was September 5, 2018. I was not used to waking up at 6:30 in the morning. I woke up and ate Cocoa Pebbles for breakfast. I got dressed and drove to school with my dad and my sister. When I arrived at school, I went to my locker. I grabbed all my books and went to my first class,  Advanced Algebra 2. After, I went to health class. I then went to advisory and then an off mod. During my off, I went to the cafeteria with my friends. When my off mod ended, I had lunch. After lunch I went to Spanish, Honor Biology, and then Intro to Bible. When school ended, I went to my field hockey game at North Harford. Over all my first day went pretty well. I only got lost once and it was an overall great day.

Unfortunately, we did have school today. We had a delay because of the snow but I really wanted to have off. Today was our last class of the...
