In class today we talked about population pyramids. There are three different shapes or types of population pyramids. The first is Christmas tree. The birth rate is high in a Christmas tree and it is usually a developing country. The second shape is a box. A box is a developed nation with a long life expectancy. The third and final shape is the cup. In a cup, it is a developed nation with negative growth. A cup means there is a low birth rate. When you are looking at a population pyramid, the men are on the left and the women are on the right.

We didn’t do that much today in class. For most of the time we looked over our grades. We went through our blogs and saw if we had to fix anything. A lot of people had to fix the blogs from last night. I had to fix my blog from last night because i didn’t have enough details about my facts. We were talking about how all of the blogs add up and are a pretty big part of our grades. Even though each blog is only two points, it can greatly impact our grades. If we don’t do our blogs this week then we will start off the next quarter with a bad grade.

The first interesting fact I found on the cia website is that Syria has a section on terrorism. Most of the places I looked at did not have a terrorism section but Syria did. The United States does not have a terrorist folder. Another interesting fact is Argentina also has lots of terrorism. I feel like terrorism doesn't seem like it would belong in Argentina. To me, Argentina seems like a place with good scenery and a vacation spot. One other fact about Argentina is that it's population is number 31 compared to the rest of the world. Argentina isn't too big. I also learned that Antartica is the fifth largest continent in the world. One final fact I learned is that there are sometimes disputes in the Atlantic Ocean.

In class today we continued to talk about population. We also talked about immigrants and emigrants. Immigrants are people that come into a new country. If someone from another country enters America, they are an immigrant. An emigrant is someone who leaves a country. If somebody were to leave America and go to another country, they would be considered an emigrant. A person could be an emigrant and also be an immigrant. If someone leaves one country, and then enters another country, they could either be called an immigrant or an emigrant.

In class today we talked more about population. We were talking about average life expectancy in different countries and places. In every place, the life expectancy was longer for women. Men can have a lot more dangerous jobs then women. This causes a higher death rate for them. Men also do not get pregnant but women do. When women are pregnant they go to the doctor often. When they go to the doctor, they make sure they are healthy, but men don't do the same. They only see doctors when it is needed. Most men also try to act all tough when they are sick or hurt so they will not see a doctor.

In class today the thing we talked about the most was population. We looked on a website it is said that China has a greater population than India. In a few years that is going to probably change. India's population is growing at a faster rate than China which means it will soon pass its population. Soon, the whole planet will be filled with billions of people. This may be too many people too handle. Some things we talked about that could happen are people losing jobs or running out of resources. We will probably begin to run out of clean, fresh water. There is not much clean water out of all the water on earth. Most of the water and all oceans are salt water, which we can't drink. A lot of land on coasts will become smaller because of global warming and the people will start to move inland.

In class today we took a test. The test was on maps and time zones. It only took me about 20 minutes to finish the test. Overall, the test wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. We were allowed to use our map papers but we didn't really need them. The only time I used them was when I had to figure out the different time zones. The time zones were probably the hardest part on the whole test for me. This is one of three tests I had today. I had a Spanish test first mod. I had this test, and then I have an algebra test after human geo.

In class today we reviewed what was going to be on our quiz. We went over maps and time zones. We had to make sure all the time zones were labeled on our maps. I had a lot of trouble figuring out the different times zones that were on the board. We had to figure out what time it would be in different places if it was a certain time here in Bel Air. We went over the different types of distortion also. One type of map distortion is shape. We said how cartography is the study of maps I had a shadow today also. His name is Andrew and he's from Bel Air.

Today in class we mostly talked about different cultures and their traditions and things like that. We talked about how a tradition for Maryland is eating crabs. This is what people do to sit and eat and have fun for a while. Something symbolic to the United States is 9/11. It has changed our country in multiple ways. The security in many different places has gotten a lot stricter. We also talked about how you could be charged for murder even if it was an accident. You can be charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, and manslaughter. We talked about how people being cremated when they die is against the Catholic religion.

Today in class we reviewed what we already have learned. We mostly talked about location and maps. Most maps are distorted because countries, such as Greenland, look much bigger on the Mercator map then on a globe. When they look different or messed up it is called distortion. Many countries are distorted on maps. We also talked about how every single map has lines of longitude and latitude. They all also have the prime meridian. All the line so longitude measure the different time zones. There are 24 time zones in total.

In class today we mostly talked about religion and location. 81% of the United States is Christian. The other 19% is other religion or no religion. Down south, the most popular religion is Baptist. Also in the south they say "y'all" a lot. Another thing we learned is that location can be identified in three ways. The three ways are place names, sites, or situations. A toponym is the name given to a place on earth. We discussed how many places have Indian names. A region is a unique area that is defined by one or more distinctive characteristics. We don't notice, but we have an accent from Maryland.

In class today we went over our first test. I was happy with my grade and how I did overall. Since I didn't get a 90% or above, I didn't get a ding, but Mia made a ding for me instead. I think I could have done better but my grade wasn't that bad. We need to keep our test to study for our exams at the end of the quarter. Mr. Schick also told us that mid-quarters are soon and if we are failing two or more classes it is required that we go to study hall. Jason also told us how there is a saying in that says "everyone is drunk except me."

We learned and talked about a lot today in class. We started off by talking about GPS. GPS stands for Global Positioning System. GPS allows you to locate things and places to its exact location. After that we started to talk about cellphones and technology. The first cell phone needed a little fanny pack when you would carry it around. Now our cellphones can track our location and listen to basically everything we say. People were saying they would talk about something and then and ad would show up on their phone for it. Amazon Alexa also listens to everything you are saying and the government probably is too. We talked about how the government can always tell your location.
